The Land of Black Périgord covers 12 townships and 146 communes.
Covering the entire borough of Sarlat-la-Canéda and includes two cantons of
the district of Périgueux (Thénon and Hautefort).
Rural transition between the plains of Aquitaine and the foothills of the Massif
Central, consisting of a vast plateau, valleys shaped by the country's Black
Périgord organized around two towns: Sarlat-la-Canéda (sub-prefecture) and
Terrasson Lavilledieu.
Located-southeast of Périgord, its name comes from the forests of oak a very
dark part of the year, but has nothing to do with truffles. Its inhabitants speak
"Sarladais"
There would be more than 1 000 castles in the Dordogne, here are the best
known: Chateau d'Hautefort Castle Chateau-la-Chapelle, Commarque Castle,
Chateau de Monbazillac, Chateau de Beynac, Chateau de l'Herm, Chateau de
Bourdeilles, Chateau de Biron Chateau Milandes, Montfort, Chateau de

There are also houses, including Monpazier, Villefranche-du-Perigord,
Domme and its walls, and Eymet and chateau.
Beyong the most beautiful villages of France, 9 are on the Dordogne 148,
placing the department in second place after the Aveyron who are 10.
The périgord is very famous for its
architecture, its wine, gastronomy
and tourism.
